Girls’ Bedroom Design Scheme & Custom Build

Design Files: Girls’ Room

My two girls share a room, it’s not a bad sized room for them but storage requirements needed to house toys, fancy dress outfits, so many books and their clothing was a big challenge. I knew I needed to utilise as much of the alcove space as possible, and so I wanted to have storage reaching up to the ceiling. For the colour palette I chose a rich pastel mauve, with a lovely grey undertone. It is rich yet muted, and potentially a lot less ‘Barbie’ than my girls may have been after. I built the shelving, starting with Ikea shelving and customising to make the most of the available alcove space, I added a super cute scalloped edge trim from Camilla Hampton Interiors to the top. The two-tone pink shades we went for makes the room feel cosy and inviting, and the shades felt like they could grow with the girls, they were young and fun but also a mature shade. The white painted floorboards are practical as well as beautiful. We kept the original fireplace black and added in the Lavender colour Mustard Made locker for some more colourful additions. My mother’s childhood chest of drawers in a dark mahogany looked beautiful within the space, I try to encorporate as much vintage as possible and anything that celebrates the age of my Victorian home.
